batakhouse

Above is a traditional Batak house of Sumatra, the affluent would use Sumatran teak for the frame and flooring of these houses. Batak houses are several hundred years old with the timber still in excellent condition today. The house represents three levels of the universe, The high roof serves as the area for the gods, the upper world. The living area above the ground pillars represents the middle world where humans live. Under the living area is the lower world, this space was for the animals and some believed home for a mythological dragon.

After grading our First check starts with our sawn timber pieces,Second check after KD, Third check after planeing, Fourth check after cross cutting, Fifth check after moulding, Sixth check after sanding and the Seventh final check before packing.

Our grade is select or better, so you won’t receive a pack with a mix match of grades. No twisting, cracking or warping, all ends are waxed to prevent any splitting. Sumatran teak has been one of timbers best kept secrets, available before only to the privileged few. TPTC have been given the rights now to show her beauty to the world, with a rich elegant texture providing new opportunities for architects and designers.

The use of Sumatran teak lessens the pressure on the well-known timber species and increases the economic viability of sustainable forest management. In terms of quality and value for money Sumatran teak gets five stars HHHHH

Look for your choices, pick the best one, then go with it, that’s Sumatran Teak.

We don’t recommend stains on our timber but you also have this option due to mid colorway. Sure sometimes certain timbers need heavy staining or even painting to hide faults, gum veins or unpleasant features. You shouldn't ever have this need because you already got quality with this species - that’s Sumatran teak. Use a good Professional oil based Clear Timber Sealer first, it has a protective coating designed to let the wood breathe while protecting against weathering and reducing dirt and moisture absorption. Use one that also contains ultra-violet sunlight protection. A sealer will need to be applied at least twice a year. If a hi-gloss varnish look is required in an undercover area, remember you can always varnish after you oil, but you cannot oil after you varnish without stripping the wood. Look for your choices, pick the best one, then go with it, that’s Sumatran Teak.
